Day 11 – 30 Day House Cleaning Challenge: Deep Clean Bedroom Furniture

Deep Clean Bedroom furniture

It’s Day 11 of the “30 Day House Cleaning Challenge” and you will be working in the bedroom today.

After last week’s deep cleaning, your bedroom is mostly clean. But the furniture, surfaces, closets etc still need to be deep cleaned and that’s what we will start tackling today.

Let’s get started…

Day 11: Deep Clean Bedroom Furniture

Deep Clean Bedroom furniturePersonally speaking, the only piece of furniture we have in the bedroom is our bed and a bedside table! But, some of you might have other furniture – a couch, a table, chairs etc. and today you will be deep cleaning all this furniture.

Here’s a tip – If the thought of cleaning all the bedroom furniture seems tiring, consider minimizing it. Having only necessary furniture in the bedroom will help save time cleaning!

Important Note:

Keep in mind that the time it takes you to complete the tasks, and the order in which you do them, depends entirely on you. It depends on your skill, your working style, the time that you can afford to put in each day, the size of your rooms and your cleanliness standards.
So, whatever you do, don’t get overwhelmed and work at your own pace. It doesn’t matter if you take a bit longer to complete the challenge.
Do whatever works for you – skip certain tasks, add others. But, just clean something!
Also be sure to check the notes at the end, for some useful tips to help you stay on track and save time cleaning.

Today’s Cleaning Plan

Daily Cleaning Tasks: Keep that daily routine going and use a checklist to stay on track!!

Weekly Cleaning Tasks: Surface clean the Bedroom and spend a little extra time deep cleaning the bedroom furniture

Monthly Deep Cleaning tasks

  • Clean all surfaces and decorative items: Wipe down all surfaces, such as table tops and open shelves. Remove all items on the surface, spray it with a suitable cleaner and wipe down thoroughly. Then wipe down and clean the items – reading lamps, knickknacks, books etc – and neatly arrange them back in place. Keep these items to a bare minimum to make cleaning easier. This is an ideal time to take inventory and make any changes.
  • Deep Clean the bed, mattress and pillows: Take off the pillows and the mattress and thoroughly wipe the bed frame. Remember to dust underneath as well. Vacuum, deodorize and spot clean the top surface of the mattress, then flip it over and vacuum the underside as well.
vacuum/dust the pillows and if they are of the washable kind, wash and dry them. If and when necessary, get a professional deep cleaning done.
  • Deep Clean all other furniture: Deep clean the couch and any other furniture that you may have in your bedroom. Remove couch cushions and vacuum/dust them. If they have removable cushion covers, put them in the wash and put on a fresh set. Clean the couch thoroughly using a vacuum or by just brushing it off. Clean the crevices and feet of the couch as well.
Similarly, vacuum/dust and clean all upholstered and other furniture – tables, chairs etc. Use a toothbrush to clean any carved furniture or hard to reach spots.
  • Clean the carpets, rugs etc: Take off any carpets and rugs and clean the floor underneath. Clean (vacuum/wash) the carpets and rugs and put them back. Spot clean any mild stains and if required. Get a professional cleaning done if and when required.

Tips to remember during the 30 Day House Cleaning Challenge

  1. Before you begin, gather all the necessary tools and keep them ready. You could get yourself a cleaning caddy or just use a basket or box.
  2. Decide on a specific amount of time that you can/will spend cleaning and set a timer. Work as quickly as you can within this time and don’t get distracted. (Except if it’s an emergency of some kind!)
  3. Start cleaning from the top of the room and work your way down. This will prevent dust falling on surfaces that you have already cleaned.
  4. Work from one side of the room to the other side, in a systematic matter, so that you don’t miss any spots.
  5. When the timer goes off, stop working! You can catch up with what you have missed during your next cleaning session.
  6. Use checklists to track your progress and to ensure that you don’t miss out anything. Checklists are especially useful in instances where you cannot complete a task and need to reschedule it.
