Deep Clean The Clothes Cupboard

It’s Day 18 of the “30 Day House Cleaning Challenge” and today you will be cleaning out your clothes cupboard or closet space.

Do you know that feeling when you go to your clothes cupboard and are just overwhelmed by the mess in there? Clothes that you haven’t worn in ages, stuff that needs mending, jeans that no longer fit. You know you have to get down to clearing it up. And you will…one day…

Well, that day is today! So get into the right mindset, pick up your tools and get down to action.

Day 18: Deep Clean The Clothes Cupboard/closet

Cleaning out your closet can be overwhelming. But, once you’re done with it, it’s going to be really worth the work you put in.

It would also be a good idea to organize your clothes while you are at it. Look at it this way, getting rid of items you no longer use clears up space for new items! So once you are done, you can reward yourself with that dress you’ve been planning on getting, and not feel guilty about it.

Important Note:

Deep Clean The Clothes CupboardKeep in mind that the time it takes you to complete the tasks, and the order in which you do them, depends entirely on you. It depends on your skill, your working style, the time that you can afford to put in each day, the size of your rooms and your cleanliness standards.
So, whatever you do, don’t get overwhelmed and work at your own pace. It doesn’t matter if you take a bit longer to complete the challenge.
Do whatever works for you – skip certain tasks, add others. But, just clean something!
Also be sure to check the notes at the end, for some useful tips to help you stay on track and save time cleaning.

Monthly Deep Cleaning tasks

    • Deep Clean the clothes cupboard:
Remove all the contents of the cupboard and place on the bed. Then thoroughly clean the cupboard from the inside.
Sort all the items into the following piles – keep, store, donate/sell, mend. Neatly fold the items to be donated or sold and put them in boxes or bags and label them accordingly. Keep aside all items that need mending, and attend to them on another day. Store any off season clothes, in a box or container.

Finally put back all items into your cupboard/closet. Organize as you go. Wherever possible, hang up clothes on hangers and arrange them according to type, colours, occassion etc. according to what suits you best.
Clean the outside of the cupboard or the closet door and you are all done!

Tips to remember during the 30 Day House Cleaning Challenge

    1. Before you begin, gather all the necessary tools and keep them ready. You could get yourself a cleaning caddy or just use a basket or box.
    2. Decide on a specific amount of time that you can/will spend cleaning and set a timer. Work as quickly as you can within this time and don’t get distracted. (Except if it’s an emergency of some kind!)
    3. Start cleaning from the top of the room and work your way down. This will prevent dust falling on surfaces that you have already cleaned.
    4. Work from one side of the room to the other side, in a systematic matter, so that you don’t miss any spots.
    5. When the timer goes off, stop working! You can catch up with what you have missed during your next cleaning session.
    6. Use checklists to track your progress and to ensure that you don’t miss out anything. Checklists are especially useful in instances where you cannot complete a task and need to reschedule it.
