30 Day House Cleaning Challenge: Deep Clean The Living Room & Entrance

Are you ready for Day 3 of the “30 Day House Cleaning Challenge”?

So far we’ve deep cleaned the kitchen and the bathroom. Doesn’t it feel wonderful? All this hard work is going to pay huge dividends. You’ll see!

Now, let’s move on to today’s task.

Day 3: Deep Clean the Living Room and Entrance

30 Day House Cleaning Challenge: Deep Clean The Living Room & EntranceThe Living room is the most used room in many homes. Most families spend a lot of time in the living room, just relaxing, reading, watching TV, chatting and even eating. This is also the where we entertain any guests or visitors.

As a result, it is important to keep this room always clean and tidy, in order to provide your family with a healthy, happy and comfortable environment.

Because of the high traffic that it gets, the living room gathers the most dust and dirt and clutter and needs a lot of attention when it comes to cleaning up.

Today, in addition to your daily and weekly cleaning tasks, you will be deep cleaning the living room.

Important Note:

Keep in mind that the time it takes you to complete the tasks, and the order in which you do them, depends entirely on you. It depends on your skill, your working style, the time that you can afford to put in each day, the size of your rooms and your cleanliness standards.
So, whatever you do, don’t get overwhelmed and work at your own pace. It doesn’t matter if you take a bit longer to complete the challenge.
Do whatever works for you – skip certain tasks, add others. But, just clean something!
Also be sure to check the notes at the end, for some useful tips to help you stay on track and save time cleaning.

Today’s Cleaning Plan

Daily Cleaning Tasks: You are probably tempted to skip this, aren’t you? But, please don’t. You will break off the habit and the little things will slowly pile up and snowball into a big mess.

Weekly Cleaning Tasks: Surface clean the Living Room and Entrance

Monthly Deep Cleaning tasks

  • Deep Clean the Walls and Ceilings: Dust the ceiling, walls and corners and get rid of cobwebs, of any. Spot clean the walls as required to get rid of any stains. Don’t forget to clean air vents, switch plates, wall decor, photo frames etc.
  • Deep Clean the doors and windows: Take down the living room curtains and set them aside to be washed on laundry day. Thoroughly clean the windows – the window sill, glass panes, grills, frames etc. Put up a fresh set of curtains at the end of the cleaning session.
Wipe down the doors and clean off any stubborn stains. Remember to clean the doorknobs and/or handles.
  • Deep Clean all the fans, lights, fixtures: Thoroughly clean all furniture, fans, lights and all other fixtures. Only do as much as you can, and continue with the rest the following week. While cleaning, remember to make note of anything that needs fixing or replacing!
  • Deep Clean the floor: Shake out and/or vacuum carpets or rugs. Set them aside to wash later, if necessary and possible. Thoroughly sweep or vacuum and mop the floor, shifting furniture to make sure you get to the hard to reach areas. Don’t forget to clean the baseboards. Spot clean any stains.
  • Finally, straighten out the furniture and put up that fresh set of curtains!

Tips to remember during the 30 Day House Cleaning Challenge

  1. Before you begin, gather all the necessary tools and keep them ready. You could get yourself a cleaning caddy or just use a basket or box.
  2. Decide on a specific amount of time that you can/will spend cleaning and set a timer. Work as quickly as you can within this time and don’t get distracted. (Except if it’s an emergency of some kind!)
  3. Start cleaning from the top of the room and work your way down. This will prevent dust falling on surfaces that you have already cleaned.
  4. Work from one side of the room to the other side, in a systematic matter, so that you don’t miss any spots.
  5. When the timer goes off, stop working! You can catch up with what you have missed during your next cleaning session.
  6. Use checklists to track your progress and to ensure that you don’t miss out anything. Checklists are especially useful in instances where you cannot complete a task and need to reschedule it.
