Day 2 – 30 Day House Cleaning Challenge: Deep Clean the Bathroom

30 Day House Cleaning Challenge: Deep Clean the Bathroom

Today is Day 2 of the “30 Day House Cleaning Challenge” and I hope you are feeling excited and motivated after your first day of cleaning, yesterday. 🙂

I know, I know! It was tough. But, it really will get better. I promise!

Today, we move on to the bathroom. In addition to your daily and weekly cleaning tasks, you will deep clean the bathroom and toilets. Wait! Don’t run! It’s really not as bad as you think!

Day 2: Deep Clean the Bathroom

It’s no secret that most people don’t like cleaning the bathroom. And I, my friend, am no different – I hate cleaning the bathroom!

But even though I don’t like cleaning it, I really love a clean bathroom. It just doesn’t feel the same getting ready or showering in a neglected, untidy bathroom than in a clean one. Can you relate, to that?

In addition, having a clean bathroom, saves yourself from embarrassment in case of any surprise guests or visitors! (How’s that for motivation?) 😀

Important Note:

Keep in mind that the time it takes you to complete the tasks, and the order in which you do them, depends entirely on you. It depends on your skill, your working style, the time that you can afford to put in each day, the size of your rooms and your cleanliness standards.
So, whatever you do, don’t get overwhelmed and work at your own pace. It doesn’t matter if you take a bit longer to complete the challenge.
Do whatever works for you – skip certain tasks, add others. But, just clean something!
Also be sure to check the notes at the end, for some useful tips to help you stay on track and save time cleaning.

Today’s Cleaning Plan

Daily Cleaning Tasks: These tasks will go much faster than yesterday. But, please do not be tempted to skip them altogether or you will break the habit and things will begin to pile up before you realize it!

Weekly Cleaning Tasks: Surface clean the Bathroom

Monthly Deep Cleaning tasks

  • Deep clean the ceilings and walls: Dust and/or wash the ceilings and walls, as necessary. Pay attention to corners and edges. Spot clean any tough stains. Don’t forget to clean the switch plates, vents, doors and anything hanging on the walls such as a clock or decor items.
  • Deep clean the windows and door: Take down any draperies and set them aside to be washed on laundry day. Dust and wash the windows – clean the glass panes, louvers, grills, frames, the window sill etc. Take down and rinse any screens.
Clean the door and the frame, paying attention to corners and edges. Don’t forget to lean the doorknobs and/or handles.
  • Deep clean fixtures and other items: Clean any fans, light fixtures, exhaust vents etc. While you are at it, make a note of anything that needs to be replaced or fixed. If you’re wondering about the fan – my husband insists on one in the toilet area!
  • Deep clean the Shower area and/or bathtub: Clean the showerhead, walls, floor, knobs, fittings etc. Don’t forget your shower curtain and shower doors, handles etc. Clean the bathtub too, if you have one.
  • Clean the toilet
    – Spray the toilet from top to bottom with a suitable cleaner and then wipe down using a suitable cleaner. Don’t forget the underside of the seat and lid.
    – Put some toilet bowl cleaner under the rim and clean the toilet bowl using a toilet brush. Flush, rinse the brush and allow it to dry before putting it away.

Check out this great video from CleanMySpace on how to quickly clean the toilet.

  • Deep Clean the floor: Wash bathmats and any other rugs and hang them out to dry. Finally, sweep and mop the floor. Spot clean any stubborn stains and clean out grout.

Tips to remember throughout the 30 Day House Cleaning Challenge

  1. Before you begin, gather all the necessary tools and keep them ready. You could get yourself a cleaning caddy or just use a basket or box.
  2. Decide on a specific amount of time that you can/will spend cleaning and set a timer. Work as quickly as you can within this time and don’t get distracted. (Except if it’s an emergency of some kind!)
  3. Start cleaning from the top of the room and work your way down. This will prevent dust falling on surfaces that you have already cleaned.
  4. Work from one side of the room to the other side, in a systematic matter, so that you don’t miss any spots.
  5. When the timer goes off, stop working! You can catch up with what you have missed during your next cleaning session.
  6. Use checklists to track your progress and to ensure that you don’t miss out anything. Checklists are especially useful in instances where you cannot complete a task and need to reschedule it.
